Here are the Top 10 Commandments for affiliate marketing success to make sure your readers get value and take the actions you want them to take so you can maximize your success with affiliate marketing. Remember, this is not only valid for affiliate marketing, but in any kind of business you have.
1. Have The Right Expectations
First of all, you have to get into this with the right expectations. It just blows my mind how many new affiliate marketers get into this field thinking they can put 2 hours per week into their business and they will start making money in a few weeks.
Let me be clear….
There are possibilities of passive income. (Earning money when you sleep) Super affiliates do this every month. However, know this: there is NOTHING called easy money, or making money without work.
If someone else trying to tell you different they either lying, trying to get your hard-earned money, or doesn’t know any better. Or a combination.
In general, I don’t like the term passive income, or making money without work, or while you sleep. But… It’s possible. After you have shed blood, sweat and tears with hard work and lied a solid foundation of making it possible. You have to work for it to made it possible.
So how can it be that people make 6 and even 7 figures on affiliate marketing? You see case studies and testimonials all over of students who make those kinds of numbers.
But it takes years and hard work. They build their email list. You need 10 000s of subscribers and do smart marketing to get big success and making 6 and 7 figures.
But you don’t need that kind of numbers to make money online. But you need to understand what it takes to reach a fortune. You can’t expect to quit your 9-5 job within couple of months. That’s not gonna happen.
The work you put in today, are the passive income you earn years from now.
2. Learn How To Perform Keyword Research
“Keyword research” might be a foreign term to you right now, but as an affiliate marketer, you will definitely want to research this more. You can use Google search to come up with long-tailed keywords combined with keyword research tool as Jaaxy.
3 Learn SEO, or Search Engine Optimization
This may also be a foreign term to you, but this is another very important aspect of your affiliate marketing business. You use it to find the best combination of words or phrases to get more traffic to your website or to your contents.
Therefore, you need to have good rankings in the search engines like Google. And you will get the most out of it with phrases with low competition.

5. Provide VALUE!
Don’t just make your website one huge sales ad. Create posts that you never even plan to monetize, simply because you want to provide useful information for people in your niche. You want to have your focus on warm traffic. This is traffic ready to buy, or at least subscribers interested in what you have to offer.
6. Be Honest and helpful
If you research a product online, let’s say Wealthy Affiliate (Yes, I’m a part of Wealthy Affiliate and I earn a commission if you decide to getting aboard through my links), you will discover many online sites rank it very high. The reason for that has less to do with the reviewers honest opinion on the particular product or service, but more with the generously affiliate program they offering.
The question is how can you know person A have written a positive review on product X and bashing the product Y? Just to earn a commission? The same way goes the other way around. How can you know person B bashing product X, just to earn commission on product Y?
This call for research. But there is a pattern. If there is 2, or more people promoting the same product, and give product X good reviews and bad reviews on product Y, you can be sure they are part of same affiliate program and they get commission on product X.
This isn’t necessarily a bad thing if they are honest and the product X are indeed a better option compared to product Y.
7. Focus On Digital Products
If possible, sell digital products over physical ones (training programs, software, online services such as web hosting, etc.). The profit margins and commissions are much higher.
Let’s face it. You waste time to promote products for Amazon where you get 4% commissions. To make money on affiliate marketing you need front end sales where you earn 100 % commissions on. Recurring. You need to focus on high end sales where you can make $1000 or more.
8. Sell Your OWN Product!
What’s even better than selling someone else’s product? Selling your OWN product! Even if it’s just a simple ebook or training program, you likely have knowledge about something that others could learn from. You will increase your traffic and trust with your subscribers and potential customers.
9. Combine Different Training courses
Some is great for free traffic methods like SEO and keyword Research. Others may be experts on payed traffic sources, or social media networking.
Find your own path what suits your business style and needs. What works wonders for some aren’t necessarily the best option for you. Always keep be willing to learn and take action the things you learn.
10. Don’t Give UP!
The only people who truly “fail” are those that give up. So, don’t give up. No matter how long it takes. The main problem is people expect results overnight. They expect to make money immediately. There is no business who have successfully made it overnight. In the case they did, they, surely doesn’t have succeeded over time. You only need an idea, a device such as a smartphone, computer or a tablet with internet access and your willpower to achieve success.
